Homeschool Violin and Viola Classes via Skype

I get it – I’m a homeschool mom too. We want to do everything we can for our kids, but when we’re footing the bill, things add up quickly. When it comes down to it, sometimes the cost of private lessons is just too high for our budget. Here’s an affordable option: Live, online via Skype. You’ll get great quality lessons, at a lower price. Maybe you’ve tried save money and let them learn violin via YouTube – how did that work? Usually, without a teacher really bad habits become…

A New Year, and a New Violin!

Carlie has been a student for a little over a year, and is one of those kids who does her work and sees the benefits of that work. She makes my job easy. Really. Easy. Her family, like many others, rented her first violin to see how she would like it. In fact, it’s something that I strongly recommend.¬†She fell in love with the violin, and they started looking for one of her very own. It’s well structured and easy to follow with a bit of guidance from a knowledgeable adult. Our twins have really enjoyed the activities, and always seem to want to do just a little more than I ask of them, which speaks¬†volumes about the book’s interest level for them. I…

Inspiring Schools to Add Music Instruction

I had the pleasure of meeting the mom of a new student yesterday, she is passionate about music and its benefits. We had a fantastic conversation about music in school, and how her son’s school only gives the strings players 30 minutes of instruction per week. Obviously, I was flabbergasted! Many of you know that I play viola and violin along with the soprano and alto recorders. When I hear the stories about how music programs have been gutted in schools, it is heartbreaking for me. I started the kindergarten…
